Artist's Statement
There is a spirit and soul in the objects that we allow to inhabit our daily lives. These things are perceived through the senses and speak to the soul through memory, imagination, and awareness of the moment. I begin by painting the light falling on an ordinary and familiar object or scene. Over time, the compositions are refined as I build alternating layers of transparent glazes and opaque paint until balance, harmony, and a subtle glow of light is realized. My goal is to reveal the quiet space beneath the surface of everyday reality. Anything is worthy to be painted, and significance may be contemplated everywhere.
